Born in Odisha, India, Anshuka Mahapatra is a visual arts practitioner with a diverse background in the arts. She completed her BFA in Art Education from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, in 2020, and her MFA in Printmaking from the Department of Fine Arts, SN School of Arts and Communication, University of Hyderabad, in 2022. Currently based in Hyderabad, she has served as a visiting faculty at the University of Hyderabad and is actively engaged in arts education, contributing to initiatives such as the NalandaWay Foundation.
Anshuka Mahapatra, through her work, explores the interplay between the digital sphere, societal constructs, and the individual psyche, continually pressing against fixed perceptions of identity, influence, and the omnipresent forces that shape everyday life. Her works reflect a sustained inquiry into the malleability of the human mind, shaped by the fluidity of information, whether disseminated, subtly made visible, or forcefully imposed, in a post-truth contemporary world.
She meticulously investigates the propagation of ideologies and their impact on an individual’s sense of self, place, and intrinsic worth. Often rendered through repetitive, overlapped text combined with imagery and language adapted from advertisements, she channels her psyche through performative gestures that confront or mock the self—absurd, unreasonable, or unstable.
Her works unfold across media, including painting, printmaking, installation, and videography.
